How to choose
For a first doll, weight and washability matter more than features: soft bodied, no small removable parts, and able to survive being carried by one arm across a room.
From about four, the accessories become the point, and a doll with clothes and a set of things to do holds attention far longer than a doll on its own. Electronic dolls that drink, cry or eat are a bigger event on the day and a quieter toy afterwards, so they suit a main gift rather than a small one.
